After comparing the Franks and the VanDaans, it is clear that the Franks are more likely to survive the adverse conditions. Mr. VanDaan is a very angry person, towards both his wife, his son, and towards the Franks as well. Mrs. VanDaan is very flirtatious towards other men, and appears to think very little of her husband. Peter is very reserved and doesn't appear to like either of his parents, as he is ashamed and embarrassed by both of them. While Anne only appears to like her father, and resents her mother and sister, the family appears to be far more functional than the VanDaans. Mr. Frank appears to be a good leader, as well.
"There are no walls, there are no bolts, no locks that anyone can put on your mind."
This is what Mr. Frank said to Anne to encourage her to try to be happy in hiding.
